Yo what up minions it's been a minute. So the last couple of weeks or maybe even months I have been reading so many books like crazy, like it's just one book after the other. I just haven't stopped and have read from paranormal to mystery to sci-fi to romance. In doing this I have actually discovered some really great new authors, and it's been really exciting to kind of be introduced to new styles of writing and new series, and I'm gonna give a shout out to some of the authors I've discovered and I'm gonna give you some definite recommendations for what I think you definitely need to read. I think historically I would read from authors I already knew and if I ever did branch out it would be very limited, um just because I don't know, I might not like the style of writing in the sample I'm reading or the storylines not grabbing me, it could be anything. But I have realised that actually I've been very kind of closed off to opening myself up again to just anything. So there's a lot going on in my personal life at the moment, and the only way I can think to kind of process and deal with anything right now is to just disappear into my little book haven. And I'm not gonna lie to you like I have obviously not been posting as regularly as I used to like a few years ago, there's obviously really big gaps and part of that is, yes, life has kind of got in the way but also I had stop reading so I didn't know what to post. I also would spend hours actually writing up my posts and on my reviews, you can probably tell by how long some of them are, and it's only recently due to stuff going on in my personal life that I've discovered dictating, I know weird right? It never occurred to me to do that before, and that's what I'm doing right now and this is really cool. So I'm just gonna dive right in and just run down some of the books I've read lately, obviously it feels like a lot to me but I suppose it's not as many as I think I would previously have done, so I'm gonna give like a little summary on each book but I really recommend these books. The first book is obviously by my goddess, Kristen Ashley, called Still Standing and let me just tell you this was so great. It was funny, it was steamy, it was intense and it was actually really raw too but I loved every second of it. You know I never have a bad thing to say with KA's books they're just amazing, and so flawlessly written. So it's the first book in her Wild West MC series, and it's the story of Clara and West 'Buck' Hardy, president of the Aces High club. Heroine's in a bit of trouble, delightful rough Buck decides he's gonna step in claim the heroine and sort out her trouble. If you have read KAs Chaos series then you know that this is gonna be just as thrilling and just as swoon worthy. The next three books are part of a series from a new author I've discovered, Jaymin Eve, and it's part of her Shadow Beast series. The first book is called Rejected, the second book is Reclaimed and the last book is Reborn. Holy smoking beasty goodness guys I loved this entire series, it's a shifter romance, it's got an antihero, it's got a strong willed fiery heroine who takes no bullshit, it's got great secondary characters and a great storyline. Without giving too much away from the title of the first book, Rejected, the heroine is a shifter who's a bit of an outcast in her pack and discovers that the Alpha's son, one of her tormentors, is actually her fated mate who rejects her publicly, she prays to the shadow beast to help her and holy moly goodness, the hotness that is Shadow Beast comes takes her away and try to figure out who she is and what she is because there's more to her than just being a shifter, and when she called out to him she didn't just summon him, she summoned creatures from his realm that he has not been to in thousands of years due to a big curse. Thus ensues the adventures of Mera and Shadow Beast, with their band of odd but powerful immortal beings. One of the great things I liked about this, apart from everything, was that the romance actually was built up really well over the first book into the second book is where it gets really steamy, but it made the chemistry more explosive, more intense and made the characters more real. I have pre-ordered the 4th book which is around Angels character and one of Shadow's friends. I'm really excited, and cannot recommend Jaymin Eve enough. The next three books are also part of a series by author Zoey Draven, and it is her Horde Kings of Dakkar series, Captive of the Horde King, Claimed by the Horde King and Madness of the Horde King. So this is obviously a sci-fi romance, human settlements on another planet kept in check by the feared Dakkar. I love how each book was around a different heroine and King and was interlinked and came together for the final story change the fates of humans. One thing you might not know about me is I love my conspiracy theories and I love thinking about life on other planets and what could happen in the future to humans, so I really got sucked into the world off the Kings and was really fascinated by the rules and the laws, and the way the heroines kept their integrity and really fought for this survival. I would definitely recommend the entire series Zoey, she has a great writing style and I guarantee you, not only will you be on the edge of your seat with intrigue but you will need to cool down afterwards with the deliciousness that is the Horde Kings. So this next book is by Ivy Asher and Raven Kennedy, and it's called Rabid: The Savage spirit of Senecca Rain. I adored this book it was really well written, it was really intense, gritty, raw and beautiful. I do have to forewarn of potential triggers for what the heroine goes through, but it is a really powerful read about finding yourself, accepting the broken pieces of yourself and kind of being reborn into this new version with all the jagged pieces together. I loved the chemistry between the main characters, and after all the hardships that the heroine goes through I was really loving the sweet and gentle side of the anti-hero. Saying that, he was harsh and it was hard to like him at first but you realise his firmness and bluntness is actually what the heroine needed to keep fighting and not give up on herself, this is the notion of you need to fight for yourself and not just depend on others saving you and I love that concept. I still have a bit of a book hangover from this one, and it's been weeks since I read it and I'm probably gonna reread it cause I can't shake it, but I would definitely love to see another story from some of the characters in the book. I don't know, Ivy and Raven, you know if you could get together and throw me a bone I'd love it. The next series actually goes back to Jaymin Eve and Tate James, for their Dark Legacy series which is a dark high school bully romance. This was such a great series because every time you think you have the plot line figured out, boom they throw something else at you and you're like hold on a second but then how does this equal this but then what does that mean with this. It's as frustrating as it is intriguing. Obviously you can see I've really got a thing for antiheroes going on here, and I will obviously say there is a trigger warning because there are some uncomfortable situations, because it is a dark high school bully romance, but it is still a great read I found, I thought the characters were very well written and the storyline was really well done. I also appreciate the fact that Dylan is given his own book at the end of the series which was also really well done and I really loved. Without giving too much away, the heroines adopted parents die in a suspicious car crash in which she is a sole survivor, and she is then thrust into the world of her biological wealthy psychotic mother as the sole heir to the family business. She meets the four other Heirs, who don't like her and definitely don't like her mother or their parents, and eventually her and the hero's chemistry is off the charts and they get together and join forces to uncover the truth about what happened to her adoptive parents, to take down her mother and the rest of their parents and get control of their lives for once. It's a fascinating concept into the lives of the ridiculously rich and prestige, highlighting the dark undertones of corruption and greed. I'm actually going to stop it here because this post is getting longer and longer, I hope these recommendations are really helpful and you love them just as much as I do. I will share the other books I've read in another post soon, but for now I will love you and leave you. Peace out minions! |

Hola amigos! I'm back with another fabu appreciation post for my homie, the one and only, Sarah Brianne! This woman is my mafia queen, and I have read and reread her Made Men series. Seriously minions if you are looking for something a little twisted, sprinkled with a little sexiness, a dash of sweetness and heaping spoonful's of alpha then this is your woman! I have been in love with the Made Men series ever since I read Nero, and I will confess I was wary in the beginning because of the high school scenario, but Sarah not only made it work but it was brilliant. It was the perfect backdrop to the romance side of things, and the character development is just done to perfection and this stays true throughout the series. She sets the scene up perfectly, and it just works well with our characters stories. But guess what? In all honesty I came across Sarah by chance, I saw Nero in my recommended and took a shot and minions.....after the first few pages I was just like.... So naturally falling in love with all the characters, I read all of the Made Men books and stalked Sarah until each one was released. Because Sarah is yet another author who so effortlessly lets you into the lives of the 'background' characters, that you crave more of their story before she's even written it and that is no easy feat. Her writing style is definitely unique, and for this genre it really works. A balance between dark and light, illustrating one cannot exist without the other. And this is beautifully represented through her heroes and heroines. Matches that don't make much sense in the beginning, but then you soon find yourself eagerly tapping the pages away in anticipation. The alphas of this series are the right kind of wrong, a delicious blend of bad, hot and fiercely protective. It's enough to make a girl weak in the knees. And even knowing they're on the wrong side of the law, you just want more of them and every piece Sarah throws us shows another layer to the man underneath. I mean I was all up in this like... This series is perfect for readers who aren't ready to join the dark side completely, it's great for giving you a taste and easing you in. You'll fall in love with every character, including the ones you think you don't like. The heroines are so strong and endearing, and I guarantee you will relate to them on one level or another. Just like our heroes Sarah give these women layers showing their strength and resilience. It is awe inspiring. Especially with how they embrace our heroes and find ways to accept them for the men they are. I have to say my personal favourites are Nero and Lucca's stories. They are just to die for (no pun intended). Believe me minions the mafia has never looked so damn good, and if you're missing out then get clicking and read!
Sarah - Amazon Hey minions! So I decided to kick it old skool with a witty post as a lead up to my come back. And I figure Author Appreciation is just what the Jungle needs right, because we wouldn't be here without them and let's be honest I have a lot to say. So I want to start the month with one of my favourite women, Suzanne Wright, the goddess of paranormal romances. I will confess when Suzanne popped into my recommended list on Kindle, I looked and ignored and always picked something else. One day I thought to myself "Why does she keep cropping up? Look at those reviews, maybe a sneak peak won't hurt..." 5 years later minions and I have read and reread all her work, I follow her religiously and absolutely adore her. I kick myself even now for even judging a book based on its cover, I mean hello that's like book bitch bylaws 101, and Suzanne if you are reading this..... *Takes moment to collect self* *Deep breath* But despite my poor lapse in judgement I am still honored enough to receive ARCs from Suzanne, and I have to say that giddy excited feeling of opening her emails never lessens. Why? Because I know every book she writes is not only incredible, her writing style, sense of humor and unique characters are unparalleled by far. For me she dominates the adult paranormal genre, and yes minions that is one bold statement, but I guarantee you that you will find no one better. She sucks you into her crazy awesome worlds from the first few pages, you instantly understand her characters are real and raw, and the fact its paranormal is just like the cherry on a delicious sundae. Now lets talk about the romance aspect....it is fucking brilliant. It is not poetic with all hearts and flowers, its gritty, emotional, sexy and breathtaking. I mean I could go on but I think you're getting the picture. With each couple you're rooting for them from the beginning, you're anxiously tapping the pages on your Kindle waiting for that first move, that explosive kiss and the panty melting sex. You feel every emotion with her characters and this is not an exaggeration. When the mystery rolls into the plotline, you are just as apprehensive. When all hells about to break loose, your heart rates going crazy and you are ready for action. When devastation hits, you actually have to take a moment to collect yourself. When victory has been accomplished, you are smiling like a loon and yes sometimes you may happy seal clap. This is the beauty of the romance in Suzanne's book, because it's there but it is not the bottom line of the story, so much is going on you just cannot pull yourself away. And when it's all over.... So the series? Well I started with her Phoenix Pack series, and I was blown away. That series has grown, has a spin-off and just gets better and better with every book. The great thing with Suzanne is she gives you enough of the 'background' characters that you'll start thinking about their story while reading the main characters, hence why when she releases the next book and it's about the characters you suspected you almost pass out from excitement. This is also true with her Mercury Pack series, Deep In You series, Dark In You and standalones. She has a way of making you crave more, and she picks so nail bitingly good which Alpha males to unleash next. Because if it's not the one you thought, you'll devour what she has released just to get closer to the one you want. Vampires and werewolves have never looked so goddamn good minions, so if you have yet to discover this amazing author follow this damn link and join the movement!
