I mean my Indie-Credible author...no wait there's no way I won't shine, so I guess it's our time to shine.
So anyways..
I've mentioned and left hints about who I've been paired with, keeping you on the tips of your toes breathless with anticipation. Okay so maybe I'm being a teensy bit dramatic, but you know you've been waiting for this. Don't even try to deny it. We got off to a rocky start, crossed wires and all that but we got there in the end. So without further ado, my fabulous author is...
*drum roll*
.....
Desiree DeOrto!
Desiree believes in the power of words, and works hard to create an escape from reality through her stories. She loves to hear from readers so don't hesitate to contact her by email (lemuriangoddess1115@yahoo.com) or through Facebook (http://facebook.com/AuthorDesireeDeOrto)
What they didn't know was that it was real.
All of it was real.
When Starlette McKinley moved from the sparkling lights of LA to the sleepy town of Shiloh, she didn't know that she would be the catalyst. She didn't know that the rage and energy pulsing through her would be the key to unleashing an insurmountable power that would either be the saving of mankind, or its destruction.
The blood will run, and the prophecy will be revealed. But will she be able to overcome the insurmountable odds? Or will she succumb to the energy within, welcoming the darkness that has become her only friend.
Katie Jones doesn't believe in love at first sight. After divorcing her abusive husband, she doesn't believe in love at all. But when Jacob Richmond walked into Bud's Diner, her disbelief was put to the test.
Jacob came to Kansas to find inspiration. He was searching for the subject that would be the muse for his next masterpiece. He wasn't expecting to find himself completely consumed by a waitress who had more baggage than he thought possible.
When love at first sight just doesn't cut it, your burning desire can't be controlled. Sometimes you need just a little luck to put it all together.
He was searching for inspiration....
She was searching for an escape...
But with a Stroke Of Luck, anything can happen.
Good we can move on, we have some real awesomeness for you!
BTW can I just point out how lush the covers look, covers mean a lot to me when it comes to books, so I obviously have to point it out. I'm totally loving them right now.
We eventually got to working on the interview (these are harder than they seem), I am of course a perfectionist, and gradually it all started to come together like PB&J sandwiches! *Yum*
So without further ado here it is, have a gander darlings...
Desi: I had a very rough, abusive childhood. Books became my way of escape, for in reading I'd forget about everything that was going on, if only for awhile. Since I loved stories so much, my young mind started creating their own. I think it was my mind's way of showing a happy ending, even though I didn't see one at that time. The stories stuck with me, and slowly progressed into more advanced and different ones. Thus, here I am, sharing my works with people, and hoping to give them an escape from reality too.
Me: What books/authors influenced you?
Desi: Oh, I love all authors and books lol. I'm a certified bookworm, so there really isn't a set of authors that have influenced me. All of them have, regardless of whether its from (after reading) knowing what I don't want to do with a book/series, or the emotional impact I hope to achieve. While writing for the first 'actual' time, I got to know some exceptionally wonderful authors who have helped me in numerous ways (and I will shamelessly promote them!). They are: Heather Hildenbrand, Tiffany King, Quinn Loftis, Patti Larsen, Adriane Boyde, Dani Morales, Frankie Rose, and Amber Garr. They're wonderful writers and even more amazing people!
Me: How did you come up with The Prophecy?
Desi: The story for The Prophecy basically slapped me in the face. Me and my boyfriend of eight years, Jeremy, we're talking about the local legends around here, and specifically the legend of Shiloh Cemetery. It is said that there is a warlock buried there with an ever-growing chain around the headstone. Every year the chain has to be cut back, for if it ever touches the warlock will be released upon the world. One thought popped into my head: What would happen if he was released in this day and age? Thus, The Prophecy was born.
Me: When can we expect the next book in the Divinity Stone series?
Desi: I had hoped to have gotten it out this month, but with housing issues and the complexity of the story I've had to push back the date until Halloween.
Me: Are any of the characters in your books a reflection of you or the people around you?
Desi: There not necessarily a reflection of one person, or multiple people that I've been in contact with. Rather, I created them with different sets of psychological traits that would harmonize with one another, yet be able to stand apart by themselves. With every character, there is at least one trait that someone can identify with, making them all relate-able and giving a more thorough humanized aspect to them. They're the type of characters that, even though a paranormal aspect has been thrown in, their humanity makes it to where people can believe that they could be real.
Me: By becoming an author has your life changed in anyway?
Desi: It has changed my life massively. I'm manic depressive and have a hard time finding my 'role' in life. I've never really fit into one category, and with how artistic and creative I can be, it's hard to find a role that involves that and being a mother also. Since I'm a mother of four, people always say that 'you're a mom', like that's the limit of my capabilities. But I wanted more than that, knew I was more than that, and having to stay confined in that role was a huge struggle for me. I got into one of my black depressions, because I was doing nothing. Don't get me wrong, being a mom is a hard, demanding, emotionally and physically consuming job, but I wasn't doing anything that was specifically 'me', and that nearly destroyed me. So, summoning up the courage to actually follow and complete one of my dreams has given me my freedom and sense of 'self' back. It has enriched my life in innumerable ways, not only with how I view myself, but how I view others and also how many amazing people I have met. My life is far richer now than it was a year ago.
That's pretty inspiring, breaking out of the 'role that's been assigned to you and becoming something so much more. I admire you Desi, *hugs*.
Now for some completely random questions...
Me: What helps you write, a desk full of junk food or a neat and organized desk?
Desi: Lol well this is where it gets weird. I can't write in a messy room, BUT I have to have post-its, index cards and posters with notes and plots and caricatures all around me when I write. So it's an organized mess.
Me: If you could live the life of one of your characters for a day, who would you choose and why?
Desi: Lol I would have to say Starlette, because I know exactly where she's going to end up. Lets just say she's going to have an amazingly horrifying/adventurous/romantic/suspenseful/powerful time :)
Me: A lot of books are coming to life through film, especially superhero films. If you could be a superhero who would you choose and why?
Desi: That's a hard one because there really aren't that many female superhero's. I suppose I would be Storm from Xmen, because I think controlling the weather and having that fabulous white hair would be awesome! Plus, Jeremy works as a landscaper, so whenever I'd want him home early I'd make it rain ;).
Me: Which is your favorite book out of the two you have published and why?
Desi: I have a love/hate relationship with my books lol. Sometimes I'm in awe of them, and other times I'm so done with them that if I even look at it one more time I will set it on fire! But, in the end I love them. I suppose my favorite would have to be The Prophecy because of the subtle tones and subplots. It's a book that you can read without thinking about, but if you actually use your brain while reading it you will find a lot of hidden details.
Not bad huh minions? *swag*
